Why We’re Building 4Cast: Because the Software We Needed Didn’t Exist
If you’ve ever run a custom manufacturing business, this story will probably sound familiar.
The Spreadsheet Chaos
Picture this: It's 2024, and I'm sitting at my desk at a precast manufacturing facility surrounded by a maze of spreadsheets.
One for quotes.
One for production.
Another for scheduling.
Half of them linked to each other like some fragile ecosystem that could collapse if someone sneezed wrong.
And collapse it did—daily.
If a customer called asking about their order, I’d open three different files, try to cross-reference dates, and just hope the data was still accurate. Generating a quote with alternates or revisions meant duplicating an old spreadsheet and manually updating it, praying I didn’t break a formula in the process.
It worked—until it didn’t. As we grew, things got more complex: new colors, new designs, more projects. Our “system” couldn’t keep up.
The Hunt for a Better Way
So I did what anyone would do—I started looking for software.
Surely there had to be something built for precast manufacturers, right?
Wrong.
I tried looking at the big names—NetSuite, Odoo, SAP. They’re powerful, but built for enterprises with IT teams and six-figure budgets. Then I tried niche manufacturing software. Some catered to civil precast (vaults, pipes, culverts), but not architectural precast—where every piece is custom, every job unique, and every approval requires coordination with architects and designers.
Everything I found was either too generic, too expensive, or too complicated. Nothing fit.
The “Fine, I’ll Build It Myself” Moment
Most people would’ve stopped there. I didn’t.
I’d been dabbling in coding for years—writing little scripts to automate small tasks. And one night, after another round of spreadsheet chaos, I decided: If nobody’s built the software we need, I will.
My wife thought I was out of my mind.
My coworkers were skeptical.
Honestly, I wasn’t sure I could do it either.
But I started anyway.
Building 4Cast, One Feature at a Time
I began with the most painful part—quotes. I built a quoting tool that handled our alternate/revision system automatically. Then I added an order converter so we didn’t have to retype quotes. Next came production tracking, and eventually RFID labeling for pieces in the yard.
Feature by feature, 4Cast started taking shape.
It wasn’t perfect—but it worked.
And for the first time, we had software that actually understood architectural precast: color batches, design approvals, pour tracking—the whole messy, beautiful process.
Why It Matters
This isn’t just my story—it’s probably yours too.
You might run a custom shop: woodworking, metal fabrication, glass, whatever. You’re juggling spreadsheets, chasing emails, and trying to make tools that weren’t designed for your kind of business actually work.
You’ve probably thought, “There has to be something better.”
Well—there is now.
And we’re building it.
What's Next: Custom Software for Small Businesses
4Cast isn't just about precast—it's about bringing custom software to small businesses that deserve better than spreadsheets and generic tools. We're building solutions tailored to how YOU work, not forcing you into someone else's system.
Will it be perfect? Not a chance.
Will it get better with each business we help? Absolutely.
We're committed to understanding your unique processes and building software that fits. Because this journey isn't just about one industry or one company. It's about solving a universal problem for custom manufacturers and small businesses everywhere.
If you’re tired of spreadsheets, tired of expensive “solutions” that don’t fit, and ready for something built by people who actually understand the work—stick around.
We’re just getting started!
